The Narrative Writing Assignment was my favorite assignment in the entire semester and I think it was also my best assignment. My writing was free of any grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, which was a first for me this semester. The assignment itself was quite fun because I finally got to be creative with my writing style and write about the make believe, which is something I didn’t know I liked so much. This was my first time writing fiction in a very long time and I forgot how exciting it is. This was also my first time ever writing in the TV script format which i chose to do because I felt like that was the best way to make the characters, Talia and Wes King, really come to life and interact with one another. The story was inspired by the relationship I have with my sister and how we would both do anything to protect one another. My sister, Elizabeth, is two years older than me and she’s always been my hero, just like Talia has always been a hero to Wes.

The Advertising Writing Assignment was the only group project of the entire semester and I was blessed with very good group mates. Audrey Martin, Kevin Metzler, and Jacob Kennedy were all amazing and made a project that would’ve been very hard for one person, very manageable for four. We worked like a well-oiled machine together, and got a lot of the work done during our lab. I picked the company TILE, because I was familiar with the products they made, due to doing a presentation over them in another class my freshman year. I was responsible for the Client Key Facts and Product: Key Features sections and through researching TILE, was able to find plenty of facts and uses of the product. I actually did the least amount of writing on this assignment even though it is the longest assignment I have been a part of this semester.

The Strategic Writing Assignment would’ve been a very challenging assignment if I had not taken a class called Sports PR in the spring 2019. In that class, it was all about how to get into the sports world as a PR representative, so I got plenty of practice in writing sports related press releases, and whenever I was told I could pick the company I wanted to represent, I knew I was always going to pick something in sports. I went back to soccer and was originally going to try and represent FIFA, but I ultimately had to switch to UEFA because FIFA seemed like a lost cause. However, I didn’t submit a flawless document. My lab instructor still had to correct a couple of GSP errors, and I still struggled to incorporate quotations into my writing, but it was at this point that I really started to turn the corner in confidence with my writing.

In the Journalism/Informative writing assignment, I felt right at home. Having been a journalism major for two full years, I have become accustomed to interviewing and writing in AP style. However i did run into trouble with the latter because Professor Paulk was contradicting things about AP style with another one of my professors. I was able to work this out by asking my lab instructor and asking questions in lecture. The interviewing process wasn’t a challenge for me as both people I interviewed were able to meet with me and there were no complications with the recordings and such. Originally, my story was in the wrong format and thankfully my peer reviewers were able to correct my mistakes so I didn’t lose easy points.

The Business Writing Assignment was my first writing assignment of the year and I struggled a bit with the new formatting requirements. This was my first time ever writing a cover letter and I didn’t really know how to start it. I wrote my resume first with the help of Professor Paulk’s lectures as well as my roommate Matthew who is a student in the Rawls College. With their help, I drafted a working resume that I now have and can change whenever I get more job experience and internships and such. After writing the resume, I came back to the cover letter, knowing now that I was writing to my Favorite English football team, Arsenal. This made the Cover Letter much easier because I have loved Arsenal since I was a kid and I was able to use personal anecdotes to make my cover letter more personable.
